What are you going to do?
In this role as Software Engineer, you will be part of the wider IT Development Team. Your responsibilities will be crucial in delivering and owning software solutions for Toolstation, while also contributing to the broader elements of engineering decision-making & strategy. This role as a Software Engineer requires you to take ownership of the end to end solutions & domains using a tailored approach.
The key accountabilities & responsibilities in this role include:
- Problem-Solving Skills: Demonstrated ability to analyse complex technical issues, identify root causes, and develop effective solutions to address them in a timely manner, ensuring minimal disruption to operations & maximum customer satisfaction.
- Agile Collaboration: Work closely with internal and third-party developers within an agile framework, supporting and contributing to the success of cross-functional teams.
- Technical Leadership: Play a lead role in the engineering organisation, providing guidance on technical decisions, fostering innovation, and driving continuous improvement.
- Effective Communication: Maintain excellent verbal communication skills, engaging with technical and non-technical stakeholders across all levels of the organisation to ensure clear understanding and alignment of objectives.
- Customer Focus: Understand customer requirements and translate them into actionable plans, delivering platform and DevOps solutions that meet and exceed expectations.
- Hands-On Engagement: Maintain a hands-on role in various aspects, including application code development, DevOps practices, data pipelines, and cloud infrastructure management.
- Continuous Learning: Demonstrate a broad range of knowledge and a willingness to explore new code areas and platform components to drive innovation and stay ahead of industry trends.
- Bridge Between Architecture & Development: Act as a bridge between architecture and development teams, conducting code reviews, debugging code, and developing when required to ensure alignment and adherence to best practices.
- Flexibility: Be open to occasional work outside of core operational hours and travel to sites in the UK and Europe as required.
